Listen, as a non-Sherlockian--or is it Holmesian?--I was wary about this novel, though as a fan of Historical Fiction, I pushed the buy button. I loved it. I'm sure the fans of Sherlock Holmes -- especially those with a fanciful collection of Deerstalker Hats to go with the rows of Holmesian literature on their shelves -- will pick at the supposed nits they surely will find. Let them. It's how they have their supposed fun. As a novel, it's first rate, and Matthews has you on a grand ride through Civil War times as well as revealing an interesting look on friendship and kinship found within the last days of Mr Holmes. Hollywood take notice. This adventure has all the trappings of a Spielberg/Snyder/Favreau actioner. Again, one must read this book. I did. Now it's your turn.
